Get-a-way Theme
The Veranda's mission is to offer you a quiet, restful get-a-way filled with the song of birds, the vision of gardens , the rhythm of rocking chairs-all under the clearest skies in Texas!

Porches, Courtyards and Gardens

The large front porch (or veranda) faces due south. Patrons frequently spend cool evenings there watching the brilliant display of stars for which the area is famous. Gazers often are treated to the spectacle of falling stars and speeding satellites. The Milky Way is so bright at night that it is regularly mistaken for clouds!

The grounds include two secluded, walled courtyards. One is on the east side of the building and contains two large Honey Locust shade trees, lilac bushes and iris. It has two covered porches, lots of outdoor chairs and tables, and is shaded all afternoon.

The west courtyard is smaller and more intimate. Its entry is guarded by a beautiful red bud tree and is spectacular in the early spring. The old, rock-arched entry is constructed of local stone.

The entire grounds occupy over half a city block and are dotted with gardens and fruit trees.

Breakfast
We serve a generous, homemade breakfast every morning with seatings at 8:00 and 9:00 ( weekday business breakfast is available at 7:00). There is always fruit juice, fresh fruit, and some kind of pastry in addition to the entree. The entrée changes daily. Some examples include soufflé; smoked ham and yarlsberg crepes; pastried egg in dill gravy; chorizo frittata with green chili corn pudding; eggs Florentine with apple-sausge cobbler. We have toast, yogurt, dry cereal and hot cereal for those who prefer a lighter breakfast. With advance notice we can serve tofu-vegetable omelet, use egg beaters, and meet other special needs.
